A Home Away From Home
Language Abroad programs offer a variety of accommodation situations. Some, but not all locations may offer a choice of accommodation types. Regardless of where you stay, we understand our students want to know they are staying in a clean, safe and comfortable environment while studying abroad. We take the guesswork out of a learning holiday and you can rest assured your accommodation will be a place you can feel "at home".

We do our Homework!
Each school has an accommodation coordinator who is responsible for finding the right accommodation for our students and ensuring that they are happy in their new environment. Wherever possible, our accommodation is used exclusively by the school's students, so you will only be sharing with your fellow international classmates.

Rooming Options:
In many cases we offer a choice of staying in your own Single Room or sharing a Double Room (two twin beds) with another student. The double option is ideal for students traveling together or for those traveling on a budget, as it is less expensive than a single room. If sharing with someone other than a friend, we try to ensure that the students are not from the same country, so they are forced to communicate in the language they are learning. We also try to have students of a similar age range rooming together, if possible. Shared double bedrooms are always same gender.

Meal Options:
Some accommodation options provide meals on a daily basis (normally only host family). Depending on your location, meal options can include Breakfast, Half Board (HB, breakfast and dinner) and in some cases Full Board (FB, all meals). All apartment accommodations are self-catering.

Close and Convenient!
All our accommodation types are usually located within a maximum of 30 minutes traveling time to the school, however depending on the size of the city travel time may be as little as 5-15 minutes! Each student will be given a key to their accommodation to come and go as they wish. (In rare cases in larger cities, travel time may be a maximum of 50 minutes.)

From when to when?
Accommodation start on Sunday and end on Saturday (except in a few cases such as the Middle East). Your Sunday night's accommodation, before your classes start on the Monday, is included in the program price. Students are expected to check out midday Saturday after the conclusion of their lessons. Depending on availability, "extra nights" before or after the course can be arranged and prices for each location are available on the pricing webpage for each.

HOST FAMILY: (normally with meal options)
This is our most popular option. Living with a host family is probably the most effective and enjoyable way to become fully immersed into the language and culture of your chosen country.

All families are carefully selected and are visited regularly by the school to ensure that our high standards are maintained. We also require that they live within a reasonable distance of the school, have ample living space and live in a clean, safe, and comfortable environment.

Students have access to all living areas in the house and in most cases are expected to share a bathroom. All bed linens and pillows will be provided (however we suggest you bring your own towels). Your family may provide a laundry service or laundry facilities, possibly for a small additional charge.

Your host family will always do their best to engage you in daily conversation and make you feel at home. But please remember that they will have different customs, habits and cuisine than you may be accustomed to. You are not obliged to eat all your meals with the family. Please simply notify them when you will not be dining at home.

Our families are diverse from young couples without children, to couples with children (of all age groups) and older couples with grown children who have left home. We always make an effort to match students to a host family with common interests, for example, if you like children, we will try and place you with a family that has children. We cannot guarantee we can place all our students in the type of family they are looking for, however we make every effort.

We ask if you have any concerns that may be considered "medical requirements" such as a non-smoking family, special diet, allergies, etc. that you inform us at the time of enrolment. Many of our families provide a choice of single room or shared double bedroom depending on which location you have chosen and usually a choice of meals, breakfast only, 2 or 3 meals daily. (Please refer to the individual school location page for further details).

Staying with a family is a truly wonderful experience and many students make lifetime friends with their host family. However, you should also have realistic expectations. Your host home may not have the same comforts as your own home does, especially in more developing countries. You will be treated as a guest and free to come and go as you wish however you may be expected to obey house rules and may not be allowed to have friends visit.

APARTMENT:
This is a popular option for those students looking for more independence.

Our apartments are usually located within 30 minutes travel time of our school. They are all shared with other international students studying at our schools and you will be sharing with many nationalities, probably between 2-5 students per apartment. Our apartments are co-ed, however bedrooms are shared with the same gender.

Most our apartments offer a choice of Single or Double (twin) rooms, with shared equipped kitchen (including cooking utensils), bathroom and living areas. The apartments vary in size and number of bedrooms, depending on the location and at some schools we offer a choice of different categories of apartments. (Please refer to the individual school location page for further details).

Our apartments are self catering, which means meals are not included. Students provide their own groceries and prepare their own meals. Often, the cooking becomes a social event in the apartment and a great way to get to know your roommates.

SCHOOL RESIDENCE:
This option is limited to a few schools.

Living in a school residence is similar to staying in a university or college dorm. Residences are located in the school building, or on the school campus. Depending on location, most school residences offer a choice of either a single or double (twin) room, sometimes including an optional meal plan.

The rooms are similar to hotel rooms and do not include kitchen facilities. Meals are provided in the school dining area or cafeteria. (For more information on facilities provided, please refer to the individual school location page for further details).

When In Rome...
Regardless of where you stay, you are expected to comply with the 'mutual' house rules. This means that common living areas must be kept clean and tidy at all times. All students have keys to their accommodation and can come and go as they wish. All bed linens will be provided, however we suggest you bring your own towels. With the exception of Host Family, laundry service is not provided however laundry services are normally located within walking distance.

When accommodation is NOT included...
This happens in a few of our more obscure locations such as the Middle East, Eastern Europe or Asia. When the school has not secured its own accommodation, Languages Abroad can step in and help. With our optional Accommodation Locator Service, we will find and reserve a close and convenient form of accommodation for you. You pay us a small service fee at the time of enrolment and pay for the accommodation at the time of your stay. In most cases where this service is available you will have your choice between various accommodation types, locations and price-ranges.

PLEASE REMEMBER: This is general accommodation information and should only be used as a basic guide to the options we offer. Accommodation standards vary upon country. In the case where a location has a very unique accommodation situation it will be noted on the page. Also note that not all these accommodation options apply to each school location. Should you have any questions please contact us. When sharing any type of accommodation, you will have to observe some basic house rules such as cleanliness and tidying up after yourself.
