The Argentine Republic, located in South America, is the largest Spanish-speaking country. Its history of human inhabitation dates back to 11,000 BC. Today’s culture has been influenced by those of several other countries, particularly in Europe. Argentina has produced many prominent writers and movies, as well as the fascinating tango – the country’s musical symbol. Folk music is also particularly diverse and popular. Many Argentine cities boast architectural attractions, and several well-known painters were born in Argentina.
Argentina’s landscape is diverse and ranges from the towering Andes mountains in the West to flat, fertile plains. The Atlantic coastline offers unique, impressive scenery, with sand dunes and rugged cliffs. The country’s climate is equally varied: northern Argentina has very hot summers, while in the south, snowy, cold winters are experienced. Animals including big cats, monkeys and crocodiles live in Argentina, and the country also contains many urban, culturally-rich centers such as Buenos Aires.
