Along the east coast of Spain in the region of Valencia, you will find the beautiful city of Alicante-Costa Blanca (White Coast), which over looks the Mediterranean Sea.
It is in an extraordinary location between mountains and the sea that makes this city have a unique kind of beauty. Alicante is the second largest city of its region. The city even has an island off its coast - the only inhabited island in the state of Valencia.
The city of Alicante has existed for over 500 years and combines both historical and modern architecture. Its history goes as far back as the prehistoric times and relics from the third century have been found here.
Our school is situated in a great location in Alicante, in the center of town known as "La Rambla" the central avenue of Alicante.
It is a lively neighbourhood boasting excellent beaches and a friendly and traditional local atmosphere and just a few steps from the Mediterranean Sea.
Alicante's exceptional location between the mountains and the sea provides the city with a special kind of enrapturing beauty and its traditional charm. Throughout the year until the mild months of winter, you can enjoy sitting outside on the terraces at the beach or visiting the countless cosy bodega bars in the old part of Alicante.
An integrated and communicative teaching system using our own books results in rapid progress. At the Alhambra Institute you'll find well-trained, highly qualified teachers with enthusiasm and dedication.
Teachers are native speakers and many are University educated with years of teaching experience. Spanish programs designed for all levels of the language and a lot emphasis is placed upon the speaking ability of the student. In addition to the normal classes, audio and video equipment, songs and local Spanish newspapers are used to promote the many different ways the language can be used.
After classes are over for the day, our program allows you plenty of time to discover your new country, culture, traditions, customs and everyday life. These activties include trips to the different monuments of Alicante and its province, as well as points of interest in the near by countryside.
Typical Spanish food can be explored on “Safari de Tapas” through the centres, where students normally end up going out until “late or better said: early in the morning” or during one of our “Paella”, “Gazpacho” or “Tortilla” cooking lessons.
Normally every Tuesday the school has a welcome party for new students and we also organize beach parties with a traditional Spanish barbacoa and paella.
At the weekend many students take optional excursions to local cities or local places of interest: Isla de Tabarca, Museo de la Asegurada, Castillo de Santa Barbara, Mountain climbing in Sierra Aitana, Night life in the old city centre or El Barrio, Beaches and water sports, Explanada de Espana, Valencia, Elche, and Palma de Mallorca.
Living with a host family is probably the best and most effective way to become fully immersed into the language and culture of your chosen country. All families are chosen after a careful selection procedure and are visited regularly by the school to ensure that high living standards are maintained.
As many of our host families live in the surrounding neighborhoods, the trip to school, is usually not more than 10 to 15 minutes away. If students need to take public transportation, There are 11 bus lines connecting every part of the city. Most of these lines stop at “Rambla de Méndez Nuńez”.which is 2 minutes walking from the school. The bus ride is about 1€.
All meals will be local custom and meal times may be different to what you are used to, however you are not obligated to eat all your meals with the family, just notify them when you will not be returning to eat at home. The main meal in Spain is lunch, and is between 2 and 3 o'clock in the afternoon.
This is also a very popular option especially for those students looking for further independence. Our apartments are normally located within the same distance as the host families and you can choose between 2, 3 or 4 bedroom apartments which you share with other international students.
The apartments are furnished in a typical Spanish style and all provide an equipped kitchen (including cooking utensils), shared bathroom facilities and living areas.
