Originally spread over seven hills, or jabals, the capital of the Hashemite kingdom now sprawls over 19 hills and is home to well over a million people, almost half the country's population. Known as the White City, the hills are covered in a jumble of light-colored stone houses, consistently box-like in shape with flat roofs characteristic of a typical desert city.
Faded minarets, pavement markets, Arabian sweet shops and crumbling ruins of ancient civilizations contrast wonderfully with the contemporary edifices, fashionable boutiques and international restaurants. Here, old and new blend in the noisy, chaotic downtown area where friendly residents go about their business.
At the heart of downtown is the Ottoman-style King Hussein Mosque, around which the buzz and bustle is at its most interesting. Even busier at prayer times, the surrounding streets are filled with the essence of Arabia, with exotic smells and rows of glittering treasures in the souq (market) amid the noise of frenetic haggling.
Other facilities within the university campus include: a post office, bank with an ATM machine (Amman-Cairo Bank), Royal Jordanian Airlines Office, small clinic & a large hospital, co-operative consumers' shop, bookstore, restaurant and cafeterias, library and a University Mosque.
The modern university campus is committed to excellence and is internationally renown. It is nestled on a beautiful hill in the northwestern part of this vibrant city, (approx. 10 kms from the city center) on the main highway connecting Amman with Suweileh (Queen Rania Road).
The Language Center is located in the heart of the campus next to the Faculty of Arts. It has a rich, intellectual campus feel, with local and international students. This perfect location boasts many excellent facilities including a wide range of sports and recreational activities.
Public transport to the campus is efficient and includes local buses, service cars and taxis (approx. JD15 from most places in the capital). Students can also park cars at the campus but this can be expensive.
The University Mosque and the University Library are adjacent to the Language Center. Use of library services, which is optional, requires an annual subscription of a refundable deposit of JD 50.
The program's greatest asset is its professional teaching staff. Teachers are native speakers and are University educated with years of teaching experience. We use student-centered methods and partake in ongoing, intensive seminars focusing on class management, teacher-student relations, language teaching skills and other crucial matters. We are improving training using computers and internet in the classroom.
Our staff employ the language laboratory, videos and educational films to enhance learning. They will also use interactive techniques such as role-play, games. Current political, social and cultural materials increase interest and knowledge of the local culture. Outside of class, students are free to use the Listening Room for study or practice, between 8:00am - 5:00pm. (8:00am - 3:00pm in summer).
After classes are over for the day our program allows you plenty of time to discover your new country, culture, traditions, customs and everyday life.
Local trips leave at 8:00 a.m. and to far places like Petra, Wadi Rum and Aqaba, the bus leaves at 7:00 a.m. To register for the trips, you need to sign up at the Academic Advisor's office.

"I had an amazing time in Jordan.
I actually decided to stay in Amman to complete Arabic Level 3 at the school. The teachers are amazing and I'd love to do another program with you to either Yemen or Cairo.
Great service! I love Languages Abroad and plan to do further study either to Yemen or Egypt in the near future with you!
Future Advice: To prepare for the culture and religious sensitivities. To buy a book like Lonely Planet or Rough Guide to read about the area, place, people, religion, etc."
