Barcelona is located in the Northeast of Spain, on the Mediterranean coast of the Iberian Peninsula. A city of 2 million people, Barcelona is Spain's second largest city. It is also the Capital of the Catalonian Region where two official languages are spoken: Catalan and Spanish.
The city offers a wide variety of colorful and intricate architecture created by the world famous Gaudí, the Gothic Quarter, and the pedestrian street "Las Ramblas" make this city a traveler and art lover's paradise.
Its history is beautifully reflected in the famous "Barrio Gótico", the old town district known as the Gothic Quarter for the treasures house of Gothic monuments found there.
It is the site of both historic monuments and modern institutions. It is also the Mecca of Spain for modern art and theatre lovers. Students can admire the work of Picasso, Miró and visit the famous "Sagrada Familia".
We also offer a "SPLIT CITY" option with our MALAGA or MADRID programs, which offers the student the opportunity to visit and study in other cities. This is extremely flexible and allows the opportunity to sample other sites, and accents, you can choose where and for how long.
The “Las Ramblas” district: is a tree-lined pedestrian thoroughfare which runs from Plaza Catalunya to Barcelona’s port district, and is a major attraction.
It’s called Las Ramblas because it consists of five different Ramblas or boulevards one after the other. A casual walk down Las Ramblas is a must for all tourists. It’s a wonderful, vibrant part of the city where street vendors and performers vie for your attention.
On a typical stroll you might encounter spray paint artists doing spacey works or Flamenco dancers performing or a lone guitarist busking. On Las Ramblas there are many kiosks selling magazines, maps guidebooks, as well as an open pet market with exotic birds, lizards, and other animals.
Our school is housed in a beautifully newly decorated and renovated building, (said to be the first building to have been erected on the street). Our school occupies both the 2nd and 3rd floors of this building and as you can see from the photo gallery of the school, offers a modern atmosphere with new school furniture and computers.
Teachers are native Spanish speakers and many are University educated with years of teaching experience. Spanish programs designed for all levels of the language and a lot emphasis is placed upon the speaking ability of the student.
In addition to the normal classes, audio and video equipment, songs and local Spanish newspapers are used to promote the many different ways the language can be used.
All families are chosen after a careful selection procedure and are visited regularly by the school to ensure that high living standards are maintained. As many of our host families live in the surrounding neighborhoods, the trip to school, is usually not more than 20 to 30 minutes away.
All apartments provide a well equipped kitchen (including cooking utensils), shared bathroom facilities and living areas. The apartments vary in size and number of bedrooms, depending on the location in the city but expect to share with 2 - 4 other students.
Students share kitchens and a cleaning service is included. The residence also offers internet access.

"I loved my experience abroad in Barcelona.
I learned so much about the Spanish culture, life and language, but most importantly I learned about myself. My trip to Barcelona was much more than just about learning Spanish, it was about learning about other people, cultures, experiences and myself.
I was able to travel around Spain and other countries in Europe and gained a sense of self. I realized that the world was much bigger than I had seen it before. My last couple of days in Barcelona were hard. I was not ready to leave behind the life and the people that I learned to love.
I am glad that I had the chance to meet the teachers, other students, and some of the locals and experience this with them. I am glad that I decided to study abroad, it was a an journey that I will never forget. I will never forget the places, the people, or the feelings, and for that I thank Languages Abroad.
I will always cherish my experience in Barcelona. The service I received from Languages Abroad was great."

I was lucky to have a super cool teacher who pointed out the hot spots to me: from bars to clubs to sightseeing locations. I made friends from all over the world and explored a whole new city while studying at a school whose facilities exceeded my expectations. I'm looking forward to repeating this experience soon!"
