As ancient as history itself, Cairo occupies a singular place among world cities, with a geographical position so unique that an interchange of influence with the civilizations to which it stood witness was made possible.
In fact Cairo could be the world's only city with monuments dating back to four different historical periods; the Pharaonic, the Roman, the Christian and the Islamic periods. The Awe inspiring Sphinx and the Pyramids of Giza are just 10km outside from Cairo.
All the bounty of the East is here. Spices, perfumes, gold, silver, carpets, leather work, glass and mashrabiya are all particularly good buys. The street markets, such as Wekala al-Balaq, are famous for fabrics, including Egyptian cotton, the Tentmaker Bazaar for appliqué-work, Mohammed Ali Street for musical instruments and, although you probably won't want to buy one, the Camel Market makes a fascinating trip.
Egyptian Colloquial Arabic is the dialect spoken in Cairo and although English is understood, it is advantageous (and appreciated!) to use Arabic in everyday life. Egyptian people are extremely warm and friendly and will go out of their way to help you.
Mohandiseen is an upmarket district of Cairo with wide bustling streets lined with shops, restaurants, cafes, cinema and is close to a metro stop. Many of the side streets are quiet and shady, with small shops and boutiques. It is a short 15-20 minute drive to Tahrir Square (downtown Cairo) and only 30 minutes from the famous Pyramids.
Note: The school is closed on Fridays and Saturdays and classes are normally held Mondays to Thursdays.
Note: Compared to other programs we offer, the total hours are less per week than average, however we recommend additional private / evening lessons to enhance your learning experience.
Each student will be expected to take a short placement test on the Sunday before courses begin, between 10.00 am & 1.00 pm. General Course Schedule:
Evening classes are normally from 5.00 to 7.00pm. Classes that fall on public holidays are usually canceled and not made-up. Courses that have a high content of public holidays, such as religious feasts, may be offered at a lower price, or given make-up classes on a Sunday. Due to annual changes in the religious calendar, we cannot always predict the exact holiday date in our course schedule.
After classes are over for the day our program allows you plenty of time to discover your new country, culture, traditions, customs and everyday life.
