The city boasts a typical Mediterranean climate with mild winters and hot dry summers. The average summer temperature of 25°C is refreshed by the gentle Maestral winds - the messenger of good weather. Whereas during the cooler months, the Bura and Jugo winds prevail.

Nearby, a group of tiny traffic free islands known as the Elaphites offer secluded beaches and basic tourist amenities. Further up the coast, the island of Korcula is reigned over by the beautifully preserved medieval town of Korcula.

During summer, regular performances of the colorful Moreka sword dance are staged here, nearby, the village of Lumbarda is home to one of Croatia's best sandy beaches. On the island of Mljet, the green and unspoilt Mljet National Park boasts dense indigenous forests and two interconnected saltwater lakes, Veliko Jezero and Malo Jezero.

Moods of Croatia city tour
Start your tour in the old town with its marble paved squares, steep cobbled streets, tall houses, convents, many churches, palaces, fountains, forts and museums, all cut from the same light-colored stone. The Placa, Dubrovnik's wonderful pedestrian promenade, runs from the city bus stop outside Pile Gate to the clock tower at the other end of tower. End your tour sitting drinking at many of the local cafes, that line the streets.

Ia a monumental and impressive fortress outside the city walls at the western side of the city. It rises proudly on a step sliff about 37 meters high and dominates the two approaches to the western part of the city. Fort Bokar was built after famous Renaissance architect Michellozi's plans, with a beautiful stone coronet round the top. The fine inner rooms and open spaces of the fort are used as the stage for some of the performances of the Dubrovnik Summer Festival.

The whole of the Dubrovnik's history has passed through this beautiful palace. Permanent displays of artifacts, furniture and paintings in the saloon ambiance of the Rector's Palace, the once seat of the government and the rector of the Dubrovnik Republic,collections of old Dubrovnik coins,medals,decorations,stamps,heralds and arms.

Across the Buni Square, at the western side of the cathedral, you pass Gunduli Square and climb the Baroque staircase up to Boškovi Square where you will find one of the finest Baroque buildings in Dubrovnik, the Jesuit church. It was built to the project of the Italian architect Andrea. This is one of the loveliest of old Dubrovnik. The first, Romanesque building was destroyed in the earthquake; the present building dates from the beginning of the 18th century and replaces the famous old church.

The complex of church and monastery of the Dominican monks in Dubrovnik was located at the most sensitive strategic point of the city. Its construction began in 1228 and was of vital importance for Dubrovnik strategists.

revelin fort and st. john's fortress
This is a large fortress, an irregular square in a form, built outside the city walls in the eastern part of the city, into the Ploe Gata. It was built in the middle of the 16th century, at the time of the newly risen Venetian danger threatening the Dubrovnik Republic. St. John's Fortress was meant to be the main defense of the city harbor and one of the most important defense fortifications of the city. Inside the ancient buildings you find the Maritime Museum and the Aquarium.

The Aquarium is in the Old City Port, sited in St.Ivan's Fortress. The halls create a special atmosphere for the visitor This building, from the Middle Ages, has 27 tanks showing the various fish that live in the sea depths, such as the ray, catfish, some sharks and many otherAdriatic fish. The smaller tanks show the wealth and diversity of the lesser known sea world, such as sponges, sea weeds, coral, starfish, sea urchins, snails and of special interest, is the octopus.

The east wing of the Dominican Monastery has a Museum which clearly shows a valuable collection of Dubrovnik Paintings from the 15th and 16th centuries, as well as sculpture, works of gold, incunabula and music scripts collected through the centuries.

The walls encircle the city and are 1.940 meters in length. They consist of 5 bastions, 3 round and 12 square towers. Built between the 8th and l6th centuries. Entrance is from the north side, by St.Spasa Church.

the synagogue
The oldest Sephardic,and by the continuity of its function,the second oldest synagogue in Europe.

boat excursions
Boat excursions, cruisings by night, fishing trips to Elafiti Islands, Cavtat, Zaton or Lokrum, Kolocep, Lopud, Sipan any of the other islands.

diving and water sports
Croatia is regarded as one of the top diving areas in the world, attracting numerous underwater enthusiasts every year. Famous French oceanographer and adventurer Jacques-Yves Cousteau once sad that the underwater world around Dubrovnik was one of the most beautiful underwater worlds he had ever seen in all the years of his expeditions. Other dsports include fishing, sailing, hunting and climbing.
