The Algarve is located in the far south of Portugal and is known for its beautiful beaches, year-round sunshine, excellent golf courses and the dramatic coastlines. Water sports such as swimming, snorkeling and wind surfing are popular along the coast.
The city of Faro, capital of the Algarve, is a charming old walled city which was partly destroyed by an earthquake in 1755 and only part of the old town remains. It is famous for its narrow, winding streets, churches, museums, and fishing harbor.
It is a beautiful, small city which also now has a busy cosmopolitan center, however just around the corner you will find small traditional markets selling, crafts such as leather and copper, fresh caught fish, wickerwork and local handmade crafts.
It offers a very relaxed Mediterranean (it is actually located on the Atlantic) feel and is close to beaches, with excellent golf courses, water slides and much more, only a few kilometers away.
The local area is a mix of business and residential, and is close to St. Antonio a pedestrian shopping street, which offers many small boutiques, cafes, bars, and internet cafes.
Teachers are native speakers and many are University educated with years of teaching experience. They will help enhance your speaking, listening, grammar and general comprehension skills.
They will also use interactive techniques such as role-play, games and perhaps videos to support lesson content. The school uses a very comprehensive series of books , materials, audio-visual and teaching aids. For more information please see Course Outline.
Living with a host family is probably the best and most effective way to become fully immersed into the language and culture of your chosen country.
All families are chosen after a careful selection procedure and are visited regularly by the school to ensure that high living standards are maintained. As many of our host families live in the surrounding neighborhoods, the trip to school, is usually not more than 10 to 25 minutes away.
NOTE: Double rooms are only available upon request, if two students are travelling together and wish to share a room. Students are placed in individual bedrooms and will be the only native speaker of their language in the house.

"Francois was enrolled in private classes in both cities of which he felt both were amazing.
His teachers in Lisbon and Faro were excellent. He was very happy that emphasis was put on learning not only the language but the history and culture as well. Francois thought the accommodations in Lisbon were excellent."

Picked up Portuguese in the morning, played golf and relaxed on the beach in the afternoon and practised my language in the evenings with the locals...a great way to spend two week!"
