Havana is the capital of one of the few Communist states remaining in the world today, but it does not have the moribund feel normally associated with Communism. Havana, has a sense of fun and the city sizzles by night.
Situated on the north coast of the island, it is built around a deep harbor and has exquisite Spanish colonial architecture with baking plazas whose only shade is towering palm trees. Hidden doorways lead to cool courtyards and the facades of buildings are graced with wrought iron balconies where whole families sit to observe passers by.
Many of the buildings are crumbling and it is decades since they have seen a coat of paint. However, in 1982, the city's importance was recognized and Havana was designated an UNESCO World Heritage Site and work is now under way to preserve its heritage.
Miramar is an upscale district of Havana where a significant number of diplomatic headquarters are concentrated.
The offers a friendly atmosphere with a international mix of students from around the world: Dutch, German, Italian, English, Canadian and many more. .
At the rear of the school we have a dance area where Salsa dancing courses take place, classes are normally held in the late afternoon.
They will also use interactive techniques such as role-play, games and perhaps videos to support lesson content. Current political, social and cultural materials are integrated to add interest and increase knowledge of the host country and culture. Homework assignments are given and students will be tested.
Important: Students are expected to bring with them pens, note books, pencils, any basic materials as they are very difficult and expensive to find in Cuba and the school will not provide them. For more information please see Course Outline
After classes are over for the day, our program has optional cultural and social activities allowing you to make new friends among your new international classmates, experience activities together, and also practice your new language skills in real life situations.
Salsa Lessons can also be arranged by a professional Latin Dance teacher, upon request for about $15.00, all these activties can be arranged after arrival at the school.
The hotel complex is very modern with colourful architecture and interior. The large-area lobby invites students to sit back and relax but can also be used as a meeting point for study groups or for after class evenings together.
The hotel area offers a 24 hours snack bar, a lobby bar, a shopping center and a laundry. Furthermore, there's a free of charge shuttle service which goes twice a day to our language and dancing school.
Our guests are also encoureged to refresh theirselves in the swimming pool of our neighour hotel Occidental Miramar and to use further sports facilities.
Every room has a kitchenette incl. fridge, cooker, microwave, toaster, coffee maker and cooking accessories. Ice machines can be used on all floors.

"I loved the program.
The teachers were very dedicated and responsive and I raised my level of Spanish from low intermediate to high intermediate. The group there was predominately Germans with other Europeans, a couple of Asians and Americans.
There were additional guided tours of great interest, excursions and exchanges with other students from other schools. We also had in formal lunches and dinners together. It was, in short, a great experience."

It was very nice to have the opportunity after the class to participate in some after-hour activities, such as visiting museums, beaches, and the Old and New Havana.
Overall, it was a very pleasant learning experience. I would highly recommend the programs and services of Languages Abroad to anybody, who wishes to learn Spanish in Havana."
