Portuguese language immersion![]() inLisbon, Portugal
Enjoy a Portuguese language course in Portugal at our language school in the city of Lisbon.
Lisbon - the capital of Portugal - is older than modern Rome and is in fact older than any other western European capital. Lisbon remains in some ways curiously provincial. Wooden trams, which were developed before World War I, clank up outrageous gradients, past mosaic pavements and Art Nouveau cafés.
Modern Lisbon has kept an easy-going, human pace and scale, however the population has doubled over the present century to nearly one million, a tenth of all Portuguese. Lisbon has recently had two landmark celebrations, in 1994, Lisbon was the European City of Culture and in 1998 the city hosted the world Expo!
Our school is located in the city center and split between three buildings all close to each other, located around the Saldanha Square area and close to the beautiful Eduard VII Park. The school is recognized by the "Instituto de Cultura e Lingua Portuesa" - the official entity for Portuguese.
Teachers are native speakers and many are University educated with years of teaching experience. Language programs designed for all language levels and in addition to the normal classes, audio and video equipment, songs and local newspapers are used to promote the many different ways the language can be used. It should also be noted that our teachers develop the textbooks used in class (which are also published for external use). Teachers use communicative methods and focus on speaking skills.
Students can take private lessons that occur in the afternoon for 1, 2 or 3 hours per day.
An additional meal per day is available (at an additional cost). Double rooms are only available upon request, if two students are traveling together and wish to share a room. Students are placed in individual bedrooms and will be the only native speaker of their language in the house.
