Portuguese language immersion

in

Lisbon, Portugal

WHAT WE LIKE about this Program!
- Safe capital city Beaches can be reached within 30 minutes
- Unique neighbourhoods, lively cafes & alluring night life
- One of few professional language schools in Portugal

Enjoy a Portuguese language course in Portugal at our language school in the city of Lisbon.

Lisbon - the capital of Portugal - is older than modern Rome and is in fact older than any other western European capital. Lisbon remains in some ways curiously provincial. Wooden trams, which were developed before World War I, clank up outrageous gradients, past mosaic pavements and Art Nouveau cafés.

Modern Lisbon has kept an easy-going, human pace and scale, however the population has doubled over the present century to nearly one million, a tenth of all Portuguese. Lisbon has recently had two landmark celebrations, in 1994, Lisbon was the European City of Culture and in 1998 the city hosted the world Expo!

SCHOOL FACILITIES
- Over 20 years of experience teaching Portuguese

- Computers (with free internet access) and language lab

Our school is located in the city center and split between three buildings all close to each other, located around the Saldanha Square area and close to the beautiful Eduard VII Park. The school is recognized by the "Instituto de Cultura e Lingua Portuesa" - the official entity for Portuguese.

Teachers are native speakers and many are University educated with years of teaching experience. It should also be noted that our teachers develop the textbooks used in class (which are also published for external use). Teachers use communicative methods and focus on speaking skills.

Students can take private lessons that occur in the afternoon for 1, 2 or 3 hours per day.

After class is over for the day, our program allows you plenty of time to discover your new country, culture, traditions and everyday life.

Examples of typical cultural opportunities: visit Castello sao Jorge (castle), museums, Mosteiro dos Jerónimos (Jerónimos Monastery, Museu Nacional dos Coches (coach museum, Sé (cathedral), Museu de Arte Popular (art museum), Torre de Belém (Tower of Belém), good nightlife and beaches.

Host Family: (private room, 1 or 2 meals daily)
Living with a local host family is the most effective way to become fully immersed in the language and culture. All families are carefully selected and visited regularly to ensure quality standards. We choose only quality families who have a genuine interest in international exchange. Many families live near the school and the commute is usually no more than 15-45 minutes.

An additional meal per day is available (at an additional cost). Double rooms are only available upon request, if two students are traveling together and wish to share a room. Students are placed in individual bedrooms and will be the only native speaker of their language in the house.

My room was comfortable et the lady I lived with speak also french and english so we were able to understand each other. The teachers were really good. We learned a lot in one month. We were only 4 in my class and it was perfect.

________________________________
"It was an excellent school and the quality of teachers was great. One surprise was that they had afternoon activities (e.g. visits to the museums etc.) which they paid for and provided a guide. This was definitely a value added feature. It enabled me to make more friends."
Alnoor A. (age 47)
