Lisbon is the capital, which is older than modern Rome and is in fact older than any other western European capital. There are few more immediately agreeable capitals than Lisbon!
A lively and varied place, it remains in some ways curiously provincial, rooted as much in the 1920s as the 1990s. Wooden trams from before World War I clank up outrageous gradients, past mosaic pavements and Art Nouveau cafés.
Lisbon has recently had two landmark celebrations, in 1994, Lisbon was the European City of Culture and in 1998 the city hosted the world Expo.
Our school is located in the city center and split between three buildings all close to each other, located around the Saldanha Square area and close to the beautiful Eduard VII Park.
The school is recognized by the “Instituto de Cultura e Lingua portuesa - the official entity for Portuguese”.
Students come from around to study at the school, the highest percentage being from Europe and the school capacity is 85 students per day.
Lessons can have individual private lessons added,1, 2, or 3 hours per day in the afternoon and the courses are flexible. Textbooks are developed by our teachers and published. Methodology is communicative with an emphasis on language for communication. Books “Português Sem Fronteiras”.
Teachers are native speakers and many are University educated with years of teaching experience. They will help enhance your speaking, listening, grammar and general comprehension skills. They will also use interactive techniques such as role-play, games and perhaps videos to support lesson content. The school uses a very comprehensive series of books , materials, audio-visual and teaching aids. For more information please see Course Outline.
Living with a host family is probably the best and most effective way to become fully immersed into the language and culture of your chosen country.
All families are chosen after a careful selection procedure and are visited regularly by the school to ensure that high living standards are maintained. As many of our host families live in the surrounding neighborhoods, the trip to school, is usually not more than 15 to 45 minutes away by public transport. Sometimes we have 2
students from the school staying in the same family.
An additional meal daily at an additional cost, is also available. Double rooms are only available upon request, if two students are travelling together and wish to share a room. Students are placed in individual bedrooms and will be the only native speaker of their language in the house.
