WHAT WE LIKE - Key features of this program
Moscow is a vast, sprawling city of contrasts with ultra modern buildings standing next to historic buildings such as the Kremlin & St. Basil's Cathedral. The weather also adds to the contrast, bitterly cold in the winter and hot in the summers. This is a very impressive city with so much history & so much to see and do however you must be aware of your own safety in the evenings.

Enjoy a Russian language course in Russia at our language school in the city of Moscow.

Moscow is a city unlike anywhere else in the world!

It is a symbol of Russian spiritual and political power, that dates back more than 850 years. Today the city is a barometer of the changes sweeping through Russia. Formerly referred to as the centre of one of the world's superpowers, Moscow is still reeling from the rapid change that it has undergone.

Nowhere other than in Moscow are Russia's contrasts more apparent: ancient monasteries and ultra-modern monoliths stand side by side. Russian millionaires and poverty stricken pensioners walk the same streets. Moscow's energy lies within its many neighbourhoods, each of which is unique and waiting to be discovered.

SCHOOL FACILITIES
The school offers six beautiful new classrooms, reception area, computer work stations equipped with the latest technology (wireless internet, DVD sets with high speed internet access), library with a good selection of study books.

Our school is centrally located and only a short walk from one of the main rail stations (Belorussian Station) and a metro station - just a 10 minute taxi ride to the Kremlin!

Located in a quiet and safe neighbourhood with 24 hour security, our school is on the ground floor of a Ministry of Foreign Affairs building. (The remainder of the building is used by foreign diplomats and international press.) It is close to all amenities including cafés, restaurants and shops.

Our school is associated with ROPRYAL (Russian Association of Teachers for Russian Language and Literature) and is a TRKI (TORFL) Testing Centre. Should you like to study in both Moscow and St Petersburg, we offer a "split city program" between both our schools.

After classes are over for the day, our program allows you plenty of time to discover your new country, culture, traditions, customs and everyday life.

The school normally organizes at least two activities per week, such as theater visits (opera/drama/ballet), theme excursions or trips to places of interest: Red Square, the Kremlin, Assumption Cathedral, St Basil’s Cathedral, Tretyakov Gallery, Novodevichy Monastery, Moscow has so many interesting things to see, even getting around is a tourist attraction in itself.

The Metro is a cheap and convenient means of travelling around the city and you will notice many stations are sumptuously decorated with marble, glittering chandeliers and works of art.

Weekend excursions could include: Star City, located just outside of Moscow, this is a cosmonaut training complex which is open to the public. Pushkin (Tsarskoye Selo) the former country residence of the Russian emperors or a boat tour on the Moskva River is a pleasant way of discovering the city or why not spend the weekend in St. Petersburg.

Host Family: (private room) 2 meals daily

Living with a host family is probably the best and most effective way to become fully immersed into the language and culture of your chosen country. Russia is a country with a basic infrastructure and power or hot water failures are not uncommon. However, justly famous Russian hospitality will play its part in overcoming most of these problems.

We usually select families without any foreign language knowledge (English speaking Russians are desperate for some English conversation). However, if a participant feels uneasy about this approach, we will find them a host family where English is spoken. Our experience shows that even absolute beginners will be able to communicate after the first few days.

Our host families usually live not more than 40 minutes away by public transport. Students have access to all living areas in the house and in most cases, will be expected to share the bathroom. All bed linens and pillows will be provided, however we suggest you bring your own towels.

Self Catering Apartments: (private room) no meals

Our apartments are normally located within the same distance as the host families and are shared with other international students studying at the school. Our apartments are co-ed, however rooms are shared with the same gender. Apartments are not air conditioned but have fans and will be cleaned once every week. No washing machine is available, however, there is generally a laundromat close-by.

All apartments provide a well equipped kitchen (including cooking utensils), shared bathroom facilities and living areas. The apartments vary in size and number of bedrooms, depending on the location in the city but expect to share with 2 - 4 other students.

STUDENT FEEDBACK

"I studied for one month in Moscow in the summer of 2005.

I had such a great time that I am going back again this summer! Languages Abroad provided a helpful service in planning the perfect program to study abroad. The staff was wonderful, and I attended one of the best language schools I have ever been to...

The school could not be more comforting, reassuring, and supportive. The staff, other students, and overall atmosphere was great! My host family was amazing. I still remain in close contact with them. We treat each other as if we are literally part of each other's families!
Allan (age: 21)

________________________________
"The experience was the opportunity of a lifetime!

The family with which I lived was wonderful and I learned much about life in Russia. My host family was wonderful beyond belief; she went shopping with me one Saturday and even had a friend accompany me to a Russian orthodox church service when she worked too late to take me herself. When I left for the airport at 4:30 a.m., she and her son went with me, which helped a great deal as the taxi driver was headed to the wrong airport!

Future Advice: It is a chance of a lifetime to meet people and see other countries..and I am already planning my return trip."
Maureen (age: 61)
