Report - Quebec City, Canada!
By Fiona, March 2006

"Quebec City…what an experience! It may have been cold outside but the warmth of all the staff and students at the school was amazing!

After years of spending time trying to speak French (a little bit here and a little bit there), I finally decided that I would treat myself with a "study holiday". I remember the day I put the registration form in the mail, I was so excited and ready for the adventure. When I received my first e-mail from Languages Abroad I knew that this was right!

I spent 4 weeks studying French through Language Abroad in "Vieux Quebec" and it is 4 weeks that I will never forget. The school is located in the middle of the city center amongst the quaint cafes, restaurants, cobble stone streets and historical buildings. The experience allowed me to meet people from around the world and from my very own country of Canada. The first day was a bit daunting; there was the placement test and then class in the afternoon.

By the end of the first day I felt totally at home, the class welcomed all the new students, we talked and laughed for most of the lesson time. There were moments when I was unable to understand the conversation, however, the professor and my classmates made me feel totally at ease. Each day my confidence grew, as did the new friendships I had made. Although school was comprised of people from all walks of life, from all different countries, we all had one thing in common, the desire and passion to learn to speak French! I signed up for the standard lesson time and supplemented that with private tutorials, which was one of the highlights, spending time one-on-one with the professor.

The staff and professors at the school were all professional, kind, compassionate and caring, they all knew my name by the end of the first day and greeted me everyday with "Bonjour Fiona". I felt at home, welcome and cared about. As a class and sometimes as a school we would venture out and truly experience "Vieux Quebec", walking, talking, meeting and learning about the life of the locals. Quebec City is alive and vibrant and unique in its culture!

As a group of students from around the world, we would often socialize outside of the school practicing our French, laughing and enjoying all the Quebec had to offer.

This is a wonderful and amazing program that can be enjoyed by anyone. I enjoyed the program so much that I am planning my return visit to the Quebec City and the school to continue my learning."

Sincerely, Fiona
