The services provided could not have been better. My host family spoiled me to the extent that I did not want to leave. The only negative, I gained a bit of weight!! The food was that good as was the conversation and "Gemuetlichkeit". Everything about the experience was top drawer!! The school staff was excellent and I can't say enough good things about them. The curriculum met my needs in every way and the teaching methodology was perfect in that everybody had to speak in German all the time.
My advice to anyone considering this program is "Go for it!!" It was an absolutely perfect way to learn another language and experience another culture."
The service provided by Languages Abroad was great. The staff was very helpful and knowledgeable. The information contained in the web site was very useful and thorough and the pre-departure information they send out was current and of
great value.
I had a first rate experience with my host family! They were very nice people, and they made me feel right at home. I interacted with the family on a daily basis at breakfast, at supper time, and in the evening (such as conversations,
watching TV, gathering with family friends, etc.) The room, bathroom, and other facilities in the house were very clean and comfortable. My host family was located about 20 minutes from the school by bus; however, I chose to walk (40-45
minutes)for the exercise.
The school was conveniently located in downtown Fukuoka. It was easily accessible by bus, subway, and on foot. The atmosphere throughout the school was friendly and welcoming. The classes were small (5-6 students per class),
and they were well equipped with modern teaching tools. All the instructions were in Japanese; however, most, if not all, the teachers spoke/understood sufficient English, and were thus able to explain in English difficult concepts
that would arise. All the teachers are certified by the Ministry of Education of Japan, and thus are very knowledgeable and qualified for the teaching.
I would strongly advice students to take advantage of the cultural and educational experiences abroad. One's personal growth and understanding of people of other cultures, and both educational and job opportunities that arise
as a result of the experiences are just incalculable.
I had a great experience! I would do it again at the drop of a hat! I learned a lot about the language and the culture in two weeks, but I felt that I really needed to stay longer to solidify my grasp of the language and to fully
appreciate the culture. Thus, I will return again, soon, and stay longer, like 4-6 weeks!
After searching the internet for awhile, I found the languagesabroad website. Having nothing to lose, I contacted the program, and received a warm, iniviting, and prompt response. Not only were the facilitators at languagesabroad very helpful in placing me in a school in Moscow, they were almost TOO helpful! Every service agent was available at any spur of the moment, and they worked to make sure that my trip was catered specifically to my requests. And off I was...
I landed in Moscow with practically no experience in the language. Needless to say, the walk off of the plane was a little daunting; however, I immediately greeted by a driver from the school, smiling and eager to help me start my new experience. I had opted to stay with a host-family in order to gain a full immersion experience.
The driver dropped me off at my family, whom were waiting for me with open arms. In fact, three years later, I still keep in contact with them, as I consider them part of my extended family! The host-family option not only aided in immersing me in the Russian language (I was forced to speak it all the time!), but I also learned a lot
about Russian culture, family, and tradition. The host-family treated me as a son and brother for the month I had spent in Moscow, and I will never forget them.
On the first day of school, my host-family "sister" walked me to school, and eased the tension of being a foreign man in a foreign country. Upon arriving at the school, I was again greeted with open arms. The entire faculty were nothing short of polite, and made sure that I felt confortable. After a short test, I was placed in a class that was appropriate for my linguistic skills. Let me tell you, I have never learned more of any topic in one month than I had at the school.
One of my classmates who was learning Russian as his sixth language remarked, that "this was the best language school he had been to." The school was filled with other enthusiastic students, and was located in the center of Moscow. The receptionist was eager to help the students navigate through the city, and plan daily activities after class, such as visits to Museums, the Red Square, etc.
As I sit here writing this testimonial, I cannot help but reflect on the memories I have had due to languagesabroad. Going into my THIRD year of planning with LanguagesAbroad, I feel confident that this summer's excursion to Moscow will only exceed my two prior visits, and I have no doubts that it will!
My host family was great. At first I felt like I was a little bit too far away from school as some of my classmates were within walking distance. But as I settled in, I began to appreciate that I was a little further removed from town. (I was about 10 kilometers from school). Signora Casalini was the best housekeeper I have ever seen. Everything was so clean and perfect. I actually tried to find dust anywhere--and I couldn't. The food was unbelievable. Too much food. But culturally, that is how Italians eat so I tried to enjoy it and appreciate it. It was great.
I loved Gabby (in the main office). She is so light hearted and always has a smile on her face. She makes everyone feel comfortable. Also, Leonardo was a great teacher for beginning students. He was patient and he never, never spoke English. Ever. And everyone was able to understand him. Nina was a great teacher too. Very authentic Italian "gusto".
Future Advice: Embrace it. Don't go if you are going to skip class or have a mental block about getting in to it. Take advantage of all of the cultural (outside of class) activities that are offered. They are either free or very very affordable and you don't get that kind of opportunity very often.
Languages Abroad provides one of the most comprehensive and enjoyable experiences of Florence that you could have! I hope to returnto continue my studies and I certainly will utilize the Languages Abroad program to do so.
I visited several of the surrounding cities and made friends from at least 25 different countries. I am extremely surprised how effective this program was, far exceeding my expectations of it, and I hope that I am able to do this several more times in the future, hopefully for a longer period as well.
If you are serious about learning a language then this really is the most effective program I've ever taken. I would recommend at least 4 weeks if you have the time although after a couple weeks you'll probably start to get homesick. If you have more time and don't get that homesick, the time there seems to be an expotential increase of language skill with every additional week. In addition, what I find to be equally of value, you will probably make dozens of friends from all
over the world that you will never forget. If you do, don't lose contact with them, most of the people that I met were incredible people.
I hope to travel more and when I do, I can visit places where I already know people. I am extremely happy that I did this program. I imagine that someone who reads this may think that this isn't real but honestly, it almost seems unreal. It's like those language programs advertised on tv "IT WORKS!" except that this actually does.
I truly recommend this program to anyone and everyone as an experience unlike any other. Travel, learning, meeting and retaining friends. What is better than all of that combined into one?
The school was situated very close to the majority of student's housing, and transportation was readily available. The
school was beautiful, and the atmosphere was energetic. We had an opportunity to meet Moroccan students as well as fellow foreign students. Meals were prepared for us in the same garden we enjoyed between classes, and the school's staff was excellent. The classes and instruction were very good.
Future Advice: Go for it. And when you are there have an open mind. If you do, the experiance of living overseas will change you for the better.
The first year we booked Paul on a trip through your program I was so uncertain. Your website looked great, and you had sent lots of information to help us feel at ease, but still, Languages Abroad was just an "elusive" entity that I couldn't see.
When I dropped off my son at the school in Montreux, I knew that the dreamlike descriptions were all real. Paul had a fantastic time, became very proficient in his language skills, and wanted to do it all again. Thankfully, Languages Abroad had stayed in communication with me regarding transportation, permissions, etc. and I was totally at ease. It was a no-brainer as to who we would contact the second summer when Paul wanted to again continue his French studies.
Again, everything went smoothly and Paul did extremely well in the program in Monaco. This summer's schedule was a bit challenging with Paul wanting a French program beginning in mid-June. I chose to deal with another language program, just because of the dates of their offerings, and it was a mistake. Thankfully, I remembered to call Margot when plans weren't progressing well, and she pulled off the miracle of the summer.
Margot made call after call, trying to secure a spot for Paul so that he could study in France in June. Her efforts to offer programs beyond the standard postings of the website went far above what anyone would expect. Margot, you are amazingly resourceful, friendly, and customer-minded! I can't thank you enough for everything you've done to help -- even down to that last confirmation email this week, just to make this Mom feel at ease.
I completely trust Languages Abroad and Teenagers Abroad to provide the finest, carefully selected programs for my teen. It would be my pleasure to share this with any potential customer. Three years of success with the same program-provider speaks for itself. We can only hope that we'll have the ability to journey with Languages Abroad many times again in the future.
Please accept my heartfelt thanks. We love Languages Abroad!
The programs were both well structured. I learned more in two months than I think I could learn in 5 years in the US. The website was easy to use and provided lots of information about the various locations. The staff was great and easy to contact by phone or e-mail.
Both homestays were great. Each provided me with a private bathroom and bedroom, keys to the house, and meals. In Quito I had to take a short bus ride to school and in Cuenca it was about a 30 minute walk.
Studying abroad is a wonderful experience and Languages Abroad has a wide range of options. The staff is very knowlegable and can help you pick the perfect program for your needs."
There is always something going on. The people are friendly, and it is a great location to study German. The school is excellent. The LA staff were helpful, the website is informative and easy to use. The predeparture info was a big help.
Studying in Berlin for 4 weeks was the time of my life. I really enjoyed the school, the city, and I met some amazing people at the school. The experience far exceded any and all expectations. Everyone should go abroad at least once, and Berlin is a really fun city to go to".
My host family’s home was located in the old city and was a five-minute walk to the school and the old city square. My family was very nice and we got along very well, even though I could barely speak a word of French when I arrived.
Thank you Languages Abroad.
Starting from the planning time, Jesse was so personal and always willing to answer any and all the questions I had. For this particular occasion, it was me, my husband, and his sister that wanted to take a week of intensive Italian.
We asked if it was possible to find a Host family that will take the 3 of us, and they were able to find it. Our family host was great!
The school was very close (10 -15 min walking distance). Our professor was awesome! Funny, understandable, willing to teach with a smile. Our class was small, 6 total, including us 3, and they were great, too.
We had lot's of fun as we HAD to communicate in Italian between us since none of us knew each others first Language! Needless to say, we learned tons and made good friends.
It was an amazing experience. I recommend it to anyone that would like to have an in depth language and cultural
experience. The only problem for us was that we could not do a longer session. If you can do 2 weeks or more, go for it!!!
I spent a fair amount of time researching different schools and language programs and was lucky enough to stumble across an article from a woman who had completed a live-in language program through Languages Abroad and recommended it.
I really wanted to do a live-in program as I felt this would be the best use of my time, which was short and a great way to learn the language.
I left for Milan, Italy in the beginning of May. Upon arriving I was immediately whisked into the house with a big hearty welcome. Dinner was already cooking and the smell of a home cooked Italian meal was the perfect start to the week that followed. The family was extremely friendly and I was instantly at 'home'.
After a wonderful meal we visited the local church to watch one of my hosts sing in the choir and the rest of the afternoon was spent showing me around the beautiful city of Milan.
I was surprised at how much there was to see in Milan, as it is not generally a top tourist spot as far as Italian cities go. The area outside the city is also beautiful, especially the Lake Como region which was just a short drive away.
My impression of the Milanese in my short time there was that they were friendly, very productive and of course everyone looked great. Italians take a lot of pride and care in their appearance!
Lesson time was spent one on one with my host and she was a wonderful teacher. Living in the tutor's home made for a very comfortable learning atmosphere. I would have to say however that I picked up more Italian and learned the most simply, living the day-to-day life of the family.
It is surprising how much you pick up in a very short time being immersed in the life style, community and hearing the actual language in everyday situations outside of a classroom or formal instruction.
I plan to do another Live and Learn program soon. I really appreciate that I can refer back to Languages Abroad to visit other areas I may want to see. I feel confident that wherever else I may stay it will also be another exceptional language learning experience!
