Rome is located in the middle of Italy on its western coast, about 20km inland. It's a vast city and the one thing you cannot escape from in Rome, is history, this exciting and stylish metropolis oozes with it.
Rome is a city of noise, you can not escape the hectic vibrancy of the place with its anarchic traffic, its piazzas, its fountains, its fabulous restaurants and all the other idiosyncrasies that make Rome quite simply one of the most remarkable cities in the world.
Whether it's Etruscan tombs, Republican meeting rooms, early-Christian churches, Renaissance palaces, Baroque basilicas, the Vatican, or the great swathe of artifacts left by the Roman Empire; the sense of history, art, and architecture, which Rome provides, is all embracing.
The historic city center is quite small and most of the major sights are within a reasonable distance of the central railway station, Stazione Termini.
The Palatine Hill and the Forum are the center of ancient Rome. Via del Corso runs north from the Forum to Piazza del Popolo, with the Spanish Steps and the Trevi Fountain just to its east.
The Vatican is northwest of the Forum, across the River Tiber. Whether it's history, or humanity, Rome is quite simply a feast for the eye.
Our school was founded in 1985 and offers a very relaxed atmosphere, where teachers and students become friends. The staff and teachers have been working with the school for many years and are highly experienced and a motivated team. Our school is also recognized by the Ministry of Public Education in Rome.
For the Intensive program, the additional two classes in the afternoons are mini group conversation classes.
Teachers are native speakers and many are University educated with years of teaching experience. They will help enhance your speaking, listening, grammar and general comprehension skills.
They will also use interactive techniques such as role-play, games and perhaps videos to support lesson content. Lessons are always conducted in Italian and the school has an excellent selection of audio and videocassettes. For more information please see Course Outline.
Activities could include trips to museums, concerts, theatres, Italian cinema evenings, wine tasting, cookery courses and lectures about the popular traditions and dialects of Rome and the rest of Italy.
Living with a host family is probably the best and most effective way to become fully immersed into the language and culture of your chosen country.
All families are chosen after a careful selection procedure and are visited regularly by the school to ensure that high living standards are maintained. As many of our host families live in the surrounding neighborhoods, the trip to school, is usually not more than 10 to 30 minutes away.
This is also a very popular option especially for those students looking for further independence. Our apartments are normally located within the same distance as the host families (many are closer) and are shared (with other international students studying at the school). Our apartments are co-ed, however rooms are shared with the same gender.
All apartments provide a well equipped kitchen (including cooking utensils), shared bathroom facilities and living areas. The apartments vary in size and number of bedrooms, depending on the location in the city but expect to share with 2 - 4 other students.
NOTE: The comfort upgrade apartment (apt 2) normally offer greater comfort: a larger apartment, better furnished, perhaps with a balcony, better location, TV, etc.

"This was one of our bests vacations.
Starting from the planning, Jesse at Languages Abroad was so personal and always willing to answer any and all the questions I had. For this particular ocassion, it was me, my husband, and his sister that wanted to take a week of intensive Italian. We asked if it was possible to find a Host family that will take the 3 of us, and they were able to find it. Our family host was great! We were their kids age and they really treated us like their own.
We had lot's of fun as we HAD to communicate in Italian between us since none of us knew each others first Language! Needless to say, we learned tons and made good friends. It was an amazing experience. I recommend it to anyone that would like to have an in depth language and cultural experience. The only problem for us was that we could not do a longer session. If you can, do 2 weeks or more!!!"

I fell in love with the entire experience and can not wait to go back. I would recommend this program for anybody who would like to escape there normal day to day and experience the daily life of others.
Thanks Languages Abroad"!
