Spanish language immersion

in

San Jose, Costa Rica

WHAT WE LIKE about this Program!
- Capital city that is safe
- School is a 10 minute bus trip from downtown
- 2 hours from beach

Enjoy a Spanish language course or holiday in Costa Rica at our language school in the city of San Jose.

The capital, San José was founded in 1737 and has a pleasant mixture of traditional and modern Spanish architecture.

San Jose also has several excellent museums, some great restaurants, colorful markets and a fine climate. Mercado Central is the best market for bargains; it has a range of goods including lots of local leatherwork, and some of the cheapest meals in town. Outside the city center is the sprawling Sabana Park, which houses the Museum of Costa Rican Art in the former airport terminal.

San José is also a good center for excursions into the beautiful Meseta Central region.

SCHOOL FACILITIES
- Modern building, 12 classrooms, and terrace area
- Computers with internet access
- School apartments only one block from the school

Our school is located between San Pedro and Zapote in a quiet and safe suburb of San José, which is only a ten-minute bus ride from the city center. The school has also developed its own grammar books, workbooks, and teaching materials to reinforce what is being taught in the classroom.

The location is ideal, away from the hustle & bustle of the city center, however, it is just a 10-minute bus ride to downtown (the nearest bust stop is a 2 minute walk from the school and a taxi costs $2.00 one way). The local University neighborhood is only 10 minutes away and offers a lively nightlife with student bars, live music & many restaurants for all budgets!

Teachers are native speakers and many are University educated with years of teaching experience. Programs for all levels are available and classes focus on oral communication. In addition to the curriculum that our normal classes follow, teachers also utilize: audio and video equipment, songs, and local Spanish newspapers. These are incorporated to utilize different approaches to communicate teaching points.

After classes are over for the day, our program allows you plenty of time to discover your new country, culture, traditions, customs and everyday life.

Examples of typical cultural opportunities: enjoying the active city nightlife, attending traditional folk music and dance, hiking /walking in the surrounding areas, visiting local Boca bars. Lectures, viewing slide shows, or participating in cooking classes. Meringue and salsa dance lessons are also offered once a week at no extra cost.

Host Family: (private room - 2 meals daily)
Living with a local host family is the most effective way to become fully immersed in the language and culture. All families are carefully selected and visited regularly to ensure quality standards. We choose only quality families who have a genuine interest in international exchange. Many families live near the school and the commute is usually no more than 10 - 15 minutes.

Self catering apartments: (private or shared room)
Apartments are also located about 10-15 minutes away from the school and are shared with other international students. Apartments are co-ed, however, bedrooms are same-gender.

The apartments always include a well-equipped kitchen (including cooking utensils), shared bathroom and living areas. The apartments vary in location, size and number of bedrooms, but expect to share with 2 - 4 other students. Each apartment has a computer with Internet access through cable modem, refrigerator, stove, microwave oven, cooking utensils and TV. Room cleaning service is provided. Each apartment has 3 bedrooms with a double bed in each room. It is possible to rent the whole apartment or just one room.

"During my 8 weeks studing, I found the teachers to be dedicated and very capable. As the class sizes are kept small, I was able to focus on what I needed to learn and I greatly increased my speaking ability.

I met students from all over the world and enjoyed the culture of Costa Rica".
Vanessa Chester

"When I arrived in Costa Rica, I was somewhat anxious because I did not know anyone and my Spanish was basic. By the time I left (2 months later), I was close to fluent in Spanish and had met many new friends from several different countries.

I also felt welcomed into the "family" which includes it's teachers, staff, students, etc. All of the connections I made in Costa Rica have had a lasting impact even to this day."
