WHAT WE LIKE - Key features of this program
Fifth largest city in S.America surrounded by Andean peaks, good school, small class sizes.

Enjoy a Spanish language course in Chile at our language school in the city of Santiago.

Santiago the capital of Chile, is the fifth largest city in South America with over five million inhabitants and was founded in 1541.

Located in the in the center of the country, in a valley that stretches five hundred miles, Santiago anchors the northern and more prosperous section of the central valley. The city is nestled in a valley surrounded by immense Andean peaks creating a spectacular backdrop.

The city is bisected by the river (Rio Mapocho) which gently weaves through the city from East to West, before descending to the flood plain below. The very heart of Santiago is the Plaza de Armas, which lies about five blocks south of the river.

In Santiago, you will find the charm and culture of Latin America with all the amenities of the first world. The city is clean, safe and efficient, and its six million residents are very friendly and hospitable to foreigners.

It is a perfect base from which to visit northern and southern Chile, as well as to see the sights of the central region. In less than an hour and a half in either direction, you can be strolling on the coast of the Pacific Ocean or skiing in the snowcapped Andes. With plenty of recreational options, striking natural beauty, and the conveniences of a modern capital city, Santiago makes a great location to study the Spanish language!

SCHOOL FACILITIES
17 classrooms (AC), TV's, and a common/social room, out door terrace area. Internet and e-mail access in computer room. School holds about 60 students a day.

Our school is located in one of the nicest areas of Santiago (Providencia) a combination of modern, high-rise buildings and quiet, tree-lined residential streets. It is just a few blocks from the main avenue 11 de Septiembre, where you will find many sidewalk cafes, plenty of shopping opportunities, as well as the metro stop "Los Leones."

The school is housed in a beautiful 3 story modern building, is very comfortable with all the modern equipment required to study a new language. Just a five-minute walk from the school is one of the city's most popular night spots, Suecia, where you will find over 50 restaurants and nightclubs located within a five-square-block area.

English is also taught to local students in the same school building, allowing you to meet and socialize with local students of all ages.

Teachers are native speakers and many are University educated with years of teaching experience. Learning is based on the communicative approach, without losing sight of the need for grammatical accuracy. Spanish language courses are taught in Spanish and are designed to help students acquire fluency and sufficient communicative skills to cope with any situation that they are likely to encounter.

With the Direct Method of language training, you will learn to speak a foreign language more quickly and easily than you may expect. The goal of our methodology is to make you comfortable using your new language in the practical situations that you encounter in everyday life, for example: travel, conducting business, meeting people, using the telephone, meetings, participating in a conversation effectively, etc.

With our communicative and dynamic approach, you will rapidly find yourself speaking in a new language. Levels & method:

After classes are over for the day, our program allows you plenty of time to discover your new country, culture, traditions, customs and everyday life.

Examples of typical cultural opportunities: visit the Central Market, Vina Concha y Toro, Cerro San Cristobal, Park and Cerro San Cristóbal.

At the weekend students can arrange to take optional excursions to local cities or local places of interest: Isla Negra (coastal town), Iña del Mar (beach resort), Ski Resorts (1-2 hours from Santiago), the Chilean Lake District (variety of lakes, forests and snow-capped volcanoes.

Host Family: (private room) 2 meals daily.

Living with a host family is probably the best and most effective way to become fully immersed into the language and culture of your chosen country. All families are chosen after a careful selection procedure and are middle class. As many of our host families live in the surrounding neighborhoods, the trip to school, is usually not more than 30 minutes away.

Students have access to all living areas in the house and in most cases, will be expected to share the bathroom. All bed linens and pillows will be provided, however we suggest you bring your own towels. If your family does not provide a laundry service, they may allow you to use the laundry facilities for a small additional charge.
