Enjoy a Spanish language course in Spain at our language school in the city of Santiago de Compostela.
Santiago de Compostela’s artistic and historical importance was confirmed in 1993, when the entire city was made a UNESCO World Heritage Site, later in 2000, it was the European city of culture. The city is also known as the third holiest site in Christianity after Jerusalem and Rome.
The city is popular for its pilgrim routes, in particular the pilgrimage of the apostle St. James that draws thousands of people from around the world to the Cathedral.
Santiago de Compostela also remains an elegantly preserved medieval cathedral town. The Old Quarter contains monuments dating back from Romanesque, Baroque and Neo-Classical periods.
Its winding narrow streets are built from local stonework. When the weather is clear, the stone glimmers in the sunlight and on rainy days, they sparkle enchantingly.
Our school is situated close to the UNESCO historic district of the city (2 minute walk) and close to the to the Cathedral. The oldest monuments are grouped around the tomb of St James and the cathedral, which contains the remarkable Pórtico de la Gloria.
The school area offers many facilities including shops, cafes and bars.. so you are never far from enjoying some fine Galician cuisines and tasty tapas.
Our small school is housed in a modern building with modern facilities and offers a real mix of international students from around the world especially European countries.
All teachers on our staff hold university degrees in Philology, with specialization in the teaching of Spanish as a foreign language. Our teaching methods are based on the communicative approach. Special emphasis is placed on conversation, so that students can make themselves understood in Spanish right from the start.
Courses combine the study of grammar and vocabulary with practical work in Spanish conversation and pronunciation. Complementary activities include debates, role plays, literary texts, newspapers, audio tapes, and videos. Class size is limited to 8 students in all courses. Class hours are 60 minutes in duration.
After classes are over for the day, our program allows you plenty of time to discover your new country, culture, traditions, customs and everyday life.
On the first day of classes, the school invites all students to a guided tour of the city, followed by wine and ‘tapas’ at a typical Spanish bar. The school also organises at least 2 of the following activities each week: talks about social and political issues in Spain: ‘The Civil War’, ‘Franco’s Dictatorship’, ‘The Political Transition in Spain’, ‘Nationalism in Spain’, ‘Stereotypes of Spain and the Spanish’, ‘Women’s roles in modern society’.
Visit the Cies Islands, Santiago de Compostela, Vigo, Northern Portugal, Rías Baixas (Lower Bays) and Finisterre. Bay cruises by boat are popular, so are wine tastings, cooking worshops and sampling of local seafood! Sports: Horseback riding, scuba diving, sailing, swimming, hiking, mountain climbing, tennis, squash, aerobics!
Here you can find The Hostal dos Reyes Catolicos the oldest hotel in the world and The Praza do Obradoiro, with the great Baroque façade of the Cathedral, it is magnificent. The entire Old Quarter is of architectural appeal, great to discover on foot.
All families are chosen after a careful selection procedure and are visited regularly by the school to ensure that high living standards are maintained. As many of our host families live in the surrounding neighborhoods, the trip to school, is usually not more than 20 to 30 minutes away.
All apartments provide an equipped kitchen (including cooking utensils), shared bathroom facilities and living areas. All apartments are self catering, which means meals are not included and students provide their own groceries and prepare their own meals or eat out. All students have keys to the apartment and can come and go as they wish.
