The city is located at an altitude of 2,790m above sea level and the climate is mild and pleasant. Sucre has a population of 150,000 and is the beautiful colonial judicial capital located in the Andean highlands of Bolivia.
Known as “the white city of the Americas”, due to its numerous colonial buildings, all of which are painted white and topped with shiny red tile roofs. It is a center of culture and learning, offering many museums, a university, a lively central plaza, shops and restaurants.
In 1991 the UNESCO declared the Historic City of Sucre a "World Heritage Site" in recognition for its rich culture and history.
Nearby is Postosi, which once was the most important silver mining centers in the world, with the largest and richest population in Latin America. It is an integral part of Bolivian history.
The school is within a few blocks from the city center and close to all amenties and places of interest, including museums, old churches, parks, shops, local market, internet cafes, restaurants and bars.
Teachers are native speakers and many are university educated with years of teaching experience. They will help enhance your speaking, listening, grammar and general comprehension skills. They will also use interactive techniques such as role-play, games and perhaps videos to support lesson content. Current political, social and cultural materials are integrated to add interest and increase knowledge of the host country and culture.
Homework assignments are given and students will be tested. All books and materials are provided by the school and the library offers an extensive collection of books, newspapers, magazine articles, as well as, some audio visual material.
Living with a host family is probably the best and most effective way to become fully immersed into the language and culture of your chosen country. All families are chosen after a careful selection procedure and are visited regularly by the school to ensure that high living standards are maintained. As many of our host families live in the surrounding neighborhoods, the trip to school, is usually not more than 10 to 20 minutes walk away.
Students have access to all living areas in the house and in most cases, will be expected to share the bathroom. All bed linens and pillows will be provided, however we suggest you bring your own towels. If your family does not provide a laundry service, they may allow you to use the laundry facilities for a small additional charge.

The exposure and immersion I had in the culture was life changing. I would recommend it to anybody who is really looking to make lifelong memories and to have your perspective on life completely changed. Not to mention, I know another language now!
I was really happy with all of my host families. They were really friendly people and would recommend all of them for future students. My roommates were all good too. Have no complaints at all. The locations of the houses were appropriate as well".
Students can then catch connecting flights to Sucre the following day (approx. flying time 45 minutes) and have plenty of time to unwind before their first day of class.
Languages Abroad can organize a "TRANSFER PACKAGE" which includes: a one way ticket, one night's hotel accommodation, buffet breakfast and transfers from La Paz to Sucre for an additional cost, please see price page for details.
Your host family will meet you at the airport. You will be met as you exit customs. (Sucre airport is a national airport, it is very small and has only one exit door). You should look for someone with a sign with your name on it.
