Canada – the second largest country in the world, and that with the longest coastline. This vast country is home to around just 34 million inhabitants, and thus has one of the lowest population densities. Canada’s natural environments, on the other hand, are huge and diverse: it contains forests and the greatest number of lakes, as well as glaciers and the world famous Niagara Falls.
In terms of culture, Canada has been influenced by the French and British – who also brought over the official languages – as well as by aboriginal traditions. Canada is a truly multicultural country, and has strong art and music industries. Sports, too, are popular, including the game of lacrosse, which originated in Canada. The maple leaf is one of the country’s national symbols, as you may have noticed on its flag, and Canada makes around 80% of the world’s maple syrup. If you have a sweet tooth, you might like to try some maple leaf cream cookies, which contain a maple-flavored filling and are shaped like the country’s symbol.
