The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan has a surprisingly diverse landscape. While Arabian Desert covers a large part of the country, it also contains forested mountains – the highest point reaching nearly 2000 m and having a snowy peak – in addition to the famous Dead Sea, at -420 m. The climate produces average temperatures of around 30°C during the long summer and around 13 °C in winter. The country’s capital, Amman, is located in the North West and snow falls there during the winter.
A culturally-rich country, Jordan offers a multitude of ancient sites and several desert castles. One of the most visited attractions is the historic city of Petra, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with pink-colored buildings cut out of the rock. The Dead Sea, which is actually a lake whose shores are the lowest point on Earth, has attracted visitors for many years with its unique health benefits and the novelty of being able to float in its water.
