"The Quito and Cuenca, Ecuador programs were both wonderful. The programs were both well structured. I learned more in two months than I think I could learn in 5 years in the US. The website was easy to use and provided lots of information about the various locations. The staff was great and easy to contact by phone or e-mail. Both homestays were great. Each provided me with a private bathroom and bedroom, keys to the house, and meals. In Quito I had to take a short bus ride to school and in Cuenca it was about a 30 minute walk.
Future Advice: Studying abroad is a wonderful experience and Languages Abroad has a wide range of options. The staff is very knowlegable and can help you pick the perfect program for your needs."
Worth (age: 26) Quito and Cuenca, ECUADOR

"The services provided were outstanding. Helpful at every step along the way. It was a great location, educational atmosphere, the classes were helpful, instructors intelligent, and fellow students great to be around. It was a great experience that I didn't want to end. I learned a ton of Spanish, a lot about South America, and had a wonderful Argentina adventure. Thanks.
Future Advice: Do it. You won't regret it. It is an excellent deal for the money."
Kyle (age: 28) Buenos Aires, ARGENTINA

"The best decision I have ever made. The residence living afforded me the independence I was looking for, and at the same time allowed me to meet other students from various other countries. The classes were both challenging and rewarding. I was very impressed with the classroom instruction, and felt that I absolutely achieved my goal of increasing my level of comprehension...and obviously I speak better now too!

The website and brochure provided a wealth of information, and along with the pre-departure information, I was well prepared for the experience. The first day started at 0800, to give enough time for the placement test, and then all other days were at 0900. I was very happy with the school. I stayed in a residence accommodation, which was a third floor flat with 15 other students. It was clean, comfortable and afforded many opportunities for independence, interacting and socializing with others. It was the best experience of my life!"
Jay Johnson (age: 49) Buenos Aires, ARGENTINA

"I had an unforgettable experience in South America. The exposure and immersion I had in the culture was life changing. I would recommend it to anybody who is really looking to make lifelong memories and to have your perspective on life completely changed. Not to mention, I know another language now!

The schools were professional but yet friendly. I enjoyed all of the schools, but the school in Sucre was my favorite. The professors there were very personable and the environment was more close nit feeling. The students at the schools always ended up being some of my best friends on my journeys. The classes were also a huge help for me. I feel that I learned a lot in the three months that I was down there.

I was really happy with all of my host families. They were really friendly people and would recommend all of them for future students. My roommates were all good too. I have no complaints at all. The locations of the houses were appropriate as well".

"I had a very good experience. My Portuguese has improved significantly. I very much enjoyed cooking class and Afro Brazilian dance as well as excursions like the Balet Folclórico and the Candomblé ceremony. The teachers are all wonderful"
Katherine Bernstein, American student who studied in Salvador, BRAZIL

"My three weeks were superb. Not only was the curriculum top , but the faculty and staff were always available and willing to help with any and every aspect of my stay in Salvador. Being a native Spanish speaker, the faculty tried to design a course that suited my particular needs, such as discovering new false cognates and idiomatic expressions.

The host family was the icing on the cake. They gave me a perspective of life and culture in Salvador that no school could provide. I can truly say that I lived the life of a Bahian for 3 weeks. I highly recommend this experience to anyone looking to learn or improve their Portuguese language skills." Wanda Echevarria, American student who studied in Salvador, BRAZIL

"The programme catered for the needs of a variety of students. The learning atmosphere was excellent: friendly teachers who were stimulating and dedicated. There were lots of people from diverse backgrounds and the curriculum promoted and supported getting to know your colleagues as well as the local environment and culture. The excursions, dance classes and interaction programmes all helped with learning the language."
Future Advice: Be preapred to immerse yourself in the language and have fun!
Gillian (age 41) studied in Salvador, BRAZIL

"This school was brilliant. They made learning Portuguese easy and a lot of fun. I normally have a few problems learning languages, but their teaching method and material was really clear and simple, and the teachers are only too keen to help if you have any problems. The ooking classes are great as well, and really compliment the language study. I would really recommend this to anyone wanting to earn Portuguese!" Geogg Hodge, UK student who studied in Salvador, BRAZIL

"The school in Salvador, was a high quality school staffed with very ice, highly professional teachers. They were able to address many levels of proficiency within the program. The home stay was very omfortable, 10-15 minute walk from school. Very comfortable, very elcoming; I really felt like part of the family. The whole experience as positive (e eu posso falar em portugues)"
Charlie Braun (50) American student who studied in Salvador, BRAZIL

"Maceio is a fantastic place to study Portuguese. It has an excellent, laid-back, friendly atmosphere, and lacks the major foreign tourist presence typical of other cities, which makes the immersion program all the more effective. Make sure to leave some time for traveling in the country after your program." Peter Isaacson (20) American student who studied in Maceio, BRAZIL

"It was a good experience, excellent school, bright airy surroundings, warm teachers and administration. Good program - no complaints."
Neville, American student who studied in Salvador, BRAZIL

"I have been with host families before, but Languages Abroad really picked out a good family, by far, the best. They were very open and really kind to me. They took me with them to a soccer game and really made me feel at home. Don't be afraid to get to know people while you are there. Make plans to go out and do fun things with either your family, or fellow students, and if you know some people who live where you are... DO NOT HESITATE to talk with them and go out on the town and really use your Spanish (or whatever language). I really learned a lot of Spanish when I went out by myself into the town and started talking to people."
Daniel Miller (18), American student who studied in Quito, ECUADOR

"I was impressed with the organization and communication between my school in Cuenca and my consultant from LA. The school was exactly as I had hoped it would be and the prior descriptions were very accurate. Thank you for all the help. This has been an experience that will certainly help me in life as I pursue my profession and as I relate with other foreigners. I recommend learning the grammar of the language before you travel to the country.

Because I would have made much more progress if I had studied the grammar here and then used that knowledge to speak and become fluent with the help of the teachers and the family there."
Nathanael Parson (21) American student who studied in Cuenca, ECUADOR

"Nancy felt that her teachers were extremely qualified, personable and kind hearted. They explained grammatical concepts well and were very professional. Her class consisted of only 5 people in each lesson.

The classes themselves are well structured (no time to be lazy!). Nancy was also pleased with the available extra-curricular activities organized by the school in Cuenca (historical, cultural, outings to ruins, salsa lessons, etc.). Her host family was very warm and friendly. They spent a lot of time interacting with her, through cooking and invitations to familiar get togethers. Nancy thinks this is a great program for someone serious about study."
Nancy Martinez (18) The mother of an American student who studied in Cuenca, ECUADOR

"A great way to learn a language. Culture classes as well as language classes contributed to the immersion in a language and culture. The structure of language lessons was very effective combining grammar, conversation, and practicing. My host family showed me around the city. I only spoke a few words but they were very patient and understanding. I was able to discuss day to day issues with them and they were welcoming and friendly."
Verena Enderby (25) American student who studied in Cuenca, ECUADOR

"The people at Languages Abroad were great. I was provided with a lot of information, and if I had any problems or questions it was easy to e-mail someone or call. I had the time of my life! The school was great, the teachers were awesome and the staff was amazing. I would recommend this to anyone. My host family was great! The location was great as well, I was a 2 minute walk from my school, and a 7 minute walk from central park. It was great!

The school was great, a little expensive, but good. The teachers were so nice and easy going. I really like having a max. of 4 people in a class, it provided an easy learning enviorment. The staff was great, they all knew everyone by name, and were there all the time if we had any problems. DO IT! You will have a blast and make a ton of new friends!
Amanda (age 17) studied Antigua, GUATEMALA

"Truly wonderful experience. Highly recommend to anyone. The host family was wonderful! Definitely enhanced the experience. Traveled to Lake Atilan over the weekend and participated with activities offered by the school. Very enjoyable."
Janet Lawless, American student who studied in Antigua, GUATEMALA

"The approach to studying various difficult verb tenses was very refreshing. We often began by reading a poem or an article, or listening to music that used the tense, then studied how to construct and use it. This made it less tedious."

My host family was extremely hospitable and interested in my stay being a fruitful one. Activities Done: Lectures on indigenous weddings, a trip to visit a farmer and family, a trip to a women's weaving cooperative, and a weekend at a lake. Future Advice: Definitely stay with a host family and take advantage of as many of the cultural activities as possible"
Joan Lindo (39) American student who studied in Antigua, GUATEMALA

"Everything ended up working out exactly like planed and I had a great time! Host family were great! We will be keeping in touch. You may think Peru is a warm tropical country, but really...it's cold, so don't do like me, and take no warm clothes"
Annie, American student who studied in Cusco, PERU

"My stay at Mrs. Helena's house was one of the most interesting parts of my trip to Venezuela and I am jealous of other students that will enjoy her hospitality for a longer stay." Andrew Brown, American student who studied in Caracas, VENEZUELA

"I had a wonderful time. My host family was really nice and the school was great. Everyone at the school knew who I was and the whole set up at the school provided a great learning environment. I recommend going to Cuenca, Ecuador if you want to learn some spanish.

All of the services provided by languages Abroad were great, I was picked up from the airport and taken to my hotel. Everything they said they would do was provided.

The school atmosphere was great. All of the students there were around my age or maybe a little younger. We all got along. The staff really knew what they were doing and helped me to learn alot of spanish.

I would recommend it. It was a great experience and I wish I would have had more time to stay". Sarah McClure (age: 22) program: Cuenca, ECUADOR

"I liked the outings and found that everybody was very nice and I felt welcomed". Marcel Beaudet, Canadian student who studied in Caracas, VENEZUELA

"Language school in Antigua, Guatemala was a wonderful experience! My education was not limited to the classroom...every trip outside of the classroom allowed me to practice my new language and continue learning about the new culture around me. I grew personally as I learned and experienced a new country and culture. It is a truly wonderful experience and if given the opportunity, I think everyone should travel and study abroad"
Karen Lyons (25) American student who studied in Antigua, GUATEMALA

"The host family really helped to enforce what I was learning in the classes and improved my conversational skills to a level I would never have been able to attain only going to classes. They allowed me a great deal of independence and gave me valuable information about the city, the people, and traveling in the country. The classes were small and the teachers were excellent. The school in Peru is linked to the ones in Bolivia and Ecuador so it is very easy to transfer between the three but I didn't know that before I left."
Brian Moots (25) American student who studied in Cusco, PERU

"Overall my experience studying in Peru was amazing. The family I lived with were wonderful. They were familiar with having students stay in their home and truly made me feel welcome"
Jasmine Qureshi, American student who studied in Cusco, PERU

"The program is great! We did a lot of hiking and sight seeing. Great way to see the country, get to know the teachers and students better"
Barbara Kralovic, Canadian student who studied in Cusco, PERU

"Chévere! Professionalism, disposition, quality, and affection were the most important characteristics of my stay at the school. It was my first, but not the last experience. I have learned much more than I expected. Thankyou!.
Marjolaine Bergeron, Canadian student who studied in Caracas, VENEZUELA

"I've returned from my trip to Merida, Venezuela. I can't express what a beautiful city and what wonderful people are there. Class went very well, I now feel that I can fully communicate in the Spanish language, both written and oral. You really helped me to make this happen by pushing my processing through as fast as you had. Thank you so much. I'm sure to give you a call for my next adventure. Thanks!" Braxton Lewis, American student who studied in Merida, VENEZUELA

"I had a wonderful time during most of my five weeks in Venezuela. My Spanish professors, host family and the school administrators were all wonderful, and I also made some lifelong friends through the school as well. In spite of the unusual things that happened during my trip to Venezuela, I would return in a second to Merida if I had the opportunity. Overall, it was a great experience and I would recommend it to anyone (after the country stabilizes a little, that is)."
Michael Moren (27) American student who studied in Merida, VENEZUELA

"The people with whom I stayed were reasonable, very nice, as well as unintrusive. The program was exceptional as almost every day myself and one other student were the entire class. I learned a good bit. The family was nice, I believe that they had housed quite a few students. This led to a plus in the sense that they were experienced with that sort of thing and not bothered by my missing meals, coming home late, etc."
Malcolm Dunlevie, American student who studied in Merida, VENEZUELA
